During the Vespa ride you can admire the salt pans, where salt is still extracted according to traditional techniques in use for centuries, and the majestic windmills used to pump water between the basins.
Along the banks of the basins it is possible to see the avocet, elected as the symbol of the Reserve, the flamingo, the white heron, the roseate gull, the kingfisher and many other species of birds, shrubs and insects, typical of those brackish areas.
The Saline della Laguna were elected FAI ‘Place of the Heart’, winning the special EXPO 2015 ranking. A result also made possible by the foresight and conservation work of the company that manages the Ettore and Infersa saltpans and some of the surrounding sites.
We offer you a unique experience, a visit to places of great charm created by man for industrial purposes and become the habitat of numerous animal species, protected by WWF Italy.
You will discover the magnificent mills, created centuries ago for processing salt, harmoniously integrated with the natural landscape.
The Vespa ride will let you experience a day in the salt tradition of Trapani, travelling along the ancient salt road, a landscape that enchants the eyes.
Itinerary
- Meeting among all the participants and the guide, at the departure point.
- Provide of the Vespa and helmet.
- Departure towards the Salt Pans of Trapani
- Vespa ride along the coast of the salt pans, with first stop at the Maria Stella windmill of the Trapani salt pans
- Continuation of the tour to the Nubia Salt Pans, the Calcara Salt Pans and a visit to the Salt Museum, there will also be a walk through the salt production ponds
- Back to Trapani.
